ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Concluded With Young Innovators Presenting Solutions to Combat Climate Change

PHNOM PENH: The 10th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APT JSO-10) concluded on July 27, 2024, with an awards ceremony presided over by H.E. HEM Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation. The event, hosted by Cambodia in Siem Reap city from July 22-27, 2024, brought together secondary school and high school students from ASEAN+3 countries for a week of scientific exploration and cultural exchange.

Minister Vanndy congratulated all participating students for their extraordinary efforts and achievements over the past five days. Under the theme "Racing Up Against Climate Change," students engaged in hands-on workshops, collaborative projects, scientific experiments, and discussions aimed at raising awareness and exploring innovative solutions to combat climate change.

Speaking to the students at the awards ceremony, he said, "You have not only showcased your knowledge and aptitude but also exemplified the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that lies at the heart of the ASEAN Plus Three community." He emphasized the role of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) in driving the growth of economies, aligning with the ASEAN Action Plan on STI 2015-2025 to enhance regional progress.

Cambodia hosted the APT JSO for the first time, reflecting its dedication to nurturing scientific excellence and fostering a culture of innovation. "This event has provided us with a platform to guide our next generation of scientists and innovators to continue enabling the limitless potential of STI both regionally and globally," said Minister Vanndy.

He encouraged participants to carry forward the knowledge and experiences gained, stay curious, and use their newfound insights to benefit others.

The event concluded with a spirit of celebration and hope, as the young participants forged lasting friendships and expressed their eagerness to become key players in the scientific advancement of the ASEAN+3 region.
